The picture archive on the history of education Pictura Paedagogica Online started in January 2000 as a DFG project with the aim of promoting research on pictures as sources of educational history. This goal is implemented by bringing together various collections of picture materials digitally in one place, by making the picture data accessible in a uniform way and by making them freely accessible.
Since May 2001, the picture archive has been available for online research, and currently contains more than 70,000 images.
In 2020 PICTURA was relaunched: the data system was changed and all data was migrated to a new system. At the same time the internet presentation was completely redesigned.
On 1 December, PICTURA paedagogica was released to the public under the new address.
